High Mountain Rangers
Training hard to keep you safe for miles!
Not much is really known about what the High Mountain Rangers actually do on Mount Greylock. I'm not really sure why, but they do a lot more than one would think. Between training and really learning to trust each other, which would be important in some highly dangerous encounters on the mountain, they are a bunch of capable people who want nothing but everyone to be able to enjoy such an iconic mountain.
I've been lucky enough to spend some time with them and able to just ask them questions when I see something quite interesting (and believe me, there are quite a few interesting moments while hanging out with these Rangers). Each Ranger brings something a little different to the table...or rather, Mountain! Huck MacKenzie is the founder of the High Mountain Rangers. He says they don't just protect Mount Greylock, but "an 11-mile-long (18 km) by 4 1⁄2-mile-wide (7 km) island-like range that runs north to south between the Hoosac Range to the east, the Green Mountains to the north, the Berkshires to both the south and east, and the Taconic Mountains to the west with which it is geologically associated; all ranges are associated with the Appalachian mountain chain." Now, he trains others and leads a team that is great at what they do over a greater range than one may think!
Other members are great assets, such as Camydn Falcon and Stella Consuelos, who are better medically trained than any of the others. Why? The two of them are registered nurses who split their time between working as High Mountain Rangers and as nurses at our very own beloved wizarding school: Ilvermorny. But then you have Reid Ellison who takes great pride in being on the Search and Rescue Team of the High Mountain Rangers! When asked what he liked the most about being a High Mountain Ranger, he replied, "I love helping people. Being there just when they need someone." Definitely, a great person to have on a team to help make sure everyone is safe in the area.
The other Rangers currently on the team are JJ MacKenzie, who is also the newest Ranger, and Tuck Mitchell who are both half-Veela, so they have a unique skill set they bring to the team as well! With such a capable team, we can rest assured that the beloved mountain and the range they protect will keep everyone safe as well as the land they protect!
For information on how to become a High Mountain Ranger, you can ask the team at their Ranger Station in Agawam, Massachusetts!
