You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” – Dr. Seuss Core Classes [break] Astronomy Observation of the night skies with telescopes, as well as gaining an understanding of the various phenomena that go on in space, such as Lunar phases and Space weather.[break] Professor: Orion Dimitri MacKenzie [break][break] Charms Charms was another known subject at Ilvermorny, and Chadwick's Charms Vols I–VII, which were written by founder Chadwick Boot, were standard textbooks for Charms class at Ilvermorny. A Charm was a type of spell concerned with giving an object new and unexpected properties, and this class mainly consisted of learning those sorts of spells. The Charms Chalice was a possible award related to the subject. In 1932, Eulalie Hicks taught the subject and her book, Advanced Charm Casting was required reading for her fifth-year students.[break] Professor: Jason Rory Ackerley [break][break] Defense Against the Dark Arts Defense Against the Dark Arts, commonly shortened to D.A.D.A., was the class that taught students defensive techniques to defend against the Dark Arts, and to be protected from Dark creatures. Defense Against the Dark Arts was one of the subjects which had been taught at Ilvermorny since the 17th century. One of the professors of this subject was Rionach Steward, the daughter of Ilvermorny founders Isolt Sayre and James Steward.[break] Professor: Emerson Braydon Rodgers[break] Flying Flying is the class that taught the use of broomsticks made for the use of flying. It was only mandatory to Ilvermorny first years and optional for second years and above.[break] First Years Flying Instructor: Open[break] Instructor Here Advanced Flying Instructor 2-5: Open[break] Instructor Here Advanced Flying Instructor for those not playing Quodpot 5-7: Open[break] Instructor Here Advanced Flying Instructor for those playing Quodpot 5-7: [break] [break][break] Herbology Herbology was the study of magical plants and how to take care of, utilize and combat them. There were at least three greenhouses, holding a variety of magical plants of varying degrees of lethality.[break] Professor: Kira Nicole Ellison [break][break] Transfiguration Transfiguration was also likely taught at the school, as an article by Ilvermorny Scholars was published in Transfiguration Today. Transfiguration was the art of changing the form or appearance of an object, and this was what this class taught. Transfiguration was a theory-based subject regarded as scientific. They also had a tournament called the Transfiguration Tournament.[break][break] Potions Potions was a class held at the school; the Excellence in Potions Cup was a related achievement at the school. Potions was described as the art of creating mixtures with magical effects. It required the correct mixing and stirring of ingredients at the right times and temperatures. The subject also required the use of a wand, and was the wizarding equivalent of No-Maj Chemistry.[break] Professor: Celeste Elissia Vanderberg [break] Electives Offered to 3rd years and above [break] Arithmancy Arithmancy was likely taught at the school, as the school has an award called the Arithmancy Achievement Accolade. Arithmancy was a branch of magic concerned with the magical properties of numbers. This subject was most likely a theory based one. [break][break] Study of Ancient Runes Study of Ancient Runes was likely taught at the school, as the school had an award called the Excellence in Runes Cup. The Study of Ancient Runes was a general theoretical subject that studied ancient runic scripts. It can be assumed that this was an elective subject at Ilvermorny.[break] Professor: Elaine Louise Moretti [break][break] Creature Care Creature Care was introduced in the school's curriculum in 1927, which may have been a consequence of the attack on New York City in 1926, and magizoologist Newton Scamander's actions to help the American wizarding community.[break] Professor: Serena Elizabeth Wyatt [break][break] Divination Divination is the art of predicting the future. Various methods were described, including tea leaves, fire-omens, crystal balls, palmistry cartomancy (including the reading of conventional playing cards and the tarot), astrology, and dream interpretations. Supporters of the subject claimed that it was an inexact science that required innate gifts like the "Inner Eye". Those opposed claimed that the subject was irrelevant and fraudulent.[break][break] No-Maj Studies No-Maj is a class which involved the study of the No-Maj (non-magical) culture "from a wizarding point of view". It also included No-Maj Art and No-Maj Music. The only need for witches and wizards to learn about No-Maj ways and means was to ensure they could blend in with No-Maj while needing to do so (for example, at the 1994 Quidditch World Cup).[break][break] Offered to 5th years and Above. [break] Ahwoyiss Spirit Learn how to turn into your Animagus in this class. Or spirit animal. Most Native American Animagi used their powers to avoid persecution or hunt for their tribe.[break][break] Nature's Spirit Learning to control the elements. [break] Professor: Cyrus Alaric Ironroot [break] Wandless Magic Native American witches and wizards practiced wandless magic. They were especially skilled when it came to animal and plant magic, and their Potion-making knowledge was far more advanced than that of Europe. Sometimes, Native American witches and wizards were accepted members of their respective tribes, even attaining positions of prominence and respect as medicine men or skilled hunters. However, others faced ostracization within their tribes, typically under the belief they were possessed by evil spirits.[break] Professor: Shelly Katherine MacKenzie [break][break] Offered to 6th and 7th years only [break] Advanced Arithmancy Arithmancy is a branch of magic concerned with the magical properties of numbers. Arithmancy is reportedly difficult, as it required memorizing or working with many charts. It was also an elective course that could be taken by students third year and above. It is separated into normal Arithmancy and Advanced Arithmancy Studies.[break][break] Alchemy Alchemy is a sort of composite subject between Transfiguration, Potions and No-Maj Chemistry, focused roughly on the transmutation of substances into other forms. It is an elective, only offered to NEWT level students if the demand is sufficient.[break] Professor: Celeste Elissia Vanderberg [break][break] Anenapawak Mythology Anenapawak Mythology is the Mythology of the Native Americans. Focusing a lot on the Algonquin tribes that settled the area of Agawam.[break] Professor: Khaleesi Jacqueline Larson [break][break] Apparition and Disapparition Apparition was the magical form of teleportation in the wizarding world. Lessons were optional to those in the sixth and seventh years. In the wizarding world, performing Apparition required a license and could only be legally performed by people over seventeen years of age. The described reason for the restriction was that Apparition was dangerous if done improperly: insufficient concentration could have led to body parts being left behind in an unfortunate side-effect known as splinching. [break] 6th Years will take the Class with book learning.[break] 7th Years will take the hands on course learning how to Apparate and Disapparate[break][break] Ancient Studies The subject presumably focused on ancient magic, such as that practiced by ancient Egyptians. This class was taught in a classroom on the sixth-floor corridor.[break][break] Dark Arts Dark Arts teaches students the fundamentals of Dark Magic. Most of it is like History of Magic so it will be boring, but you will learn about Dark Magic.[break] Professor: Zoe Wren Foxglove [break][break] Medieval HIstory Teaching about the Medieval period.[break] Professor: James Gregory Matheson [break][break] Other Electives [break] No-Maj Arts No-Maj Art was a class where students painted, drew, and otherwise depicted artistic things.[break][break] No-Maj Music Where students are taught music that is also taught to No-Maj.[break][break] Music Music was a class in which students were taught musical instruments and possibly sang in the Frog Choir.[break] Students[break][break] Xylomancy Xylomancy was a class in which students learned about the 'often overlooked' way of divination which had something to do with twigs.[break][break] |
